Be Brave. Be Strong. Don’t Give Up!

Posted by: Rebecca.

Courage is defined as the ability to do something that frightens one, or strength in the face of pain or grief. It’s doing something in spite of fear. Doing it afraid.

Courage and bravery seem to work together. Having someone tell you “Just be brave” or “Use your courage” isn’t enough. No one is fearless. Bravery and courage require feeling your fears, but taking steps to work through them.

Courage

I’m reminded of a story Bridgett told me, and was given her blessing to share it with you. When she was a senior in high school, she had the privilege of being chosen to be a part of the Presidential Classroom. Only the top two students in a senior high school class were eligible to take this week-long trip to Washington D.C. Exciting, right? Continue reading

Scribe’s Playlist — Be Still

Posted by Rebecca.

My heart felt heavy today as I sat to work on this post. I have friends who are struggling with life-threatening illness, job and income losses, deaths of loved ones, and the stresses of life.

Miracle sign

As I pray for them and share heartfelt compassion for their circumstance, I have an inner peace that the God I love and gave my life to will, without a doubt, show himself real and faithful to each one of them in just the right time. That He will answer their cry for help and my simple prayers for them.

I know He will answer, and yet I understand the feelings of fear, sadness, and inadequacy my dear friends may be experiencing. Those feelings tend to war with our faith that God is with us and never leaves us. Those fears at times utter battle cries that may rise through the peaceful moments of our prayers and pierce our hearts.

Maybe it is to those warring fears we need to say, “Be Still! My God is with me and together we WILL have victory.”

Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Those words “be still” are not just a call for silent worship. It was the voice of God addressing wicked warring nations to “cease and desist”. Warning them that He would be exalted, not them. That they had no chance of winning.

As I read and studied this verse today, I was reminded of the song from Bethel Music “Be Still”.

So, I invite you to share my headphones for a moment and enjoy…

When Life’s Puzzle Pieces Scatter: rediscovering the big picture

Posted by: Bridgett.

Do you like jigsaw puzzles?

Before I could even read, my mom instilled a deep enjoyment of them in me. I’m not sure whether it’s the mystery, the logical exercise of fitting shapes together in a way the makes imagesense, or just the challenge of all those pieces shouting, “where do I fit?” I just know, puzzles are fun.

Except when the pieces are scattered, the box top has gone missing, and the puzzle turns out to be your novel…or worse, your life.

Maybe you have the puzzle almost completed, know what the big picture on the box is supposed to look like. Then the pieces scatter, and you’re left with space enough for only half of them—but still have to make the picture work.

Now what? Continue reading

Packing light: for a writers’ conference and in life

Posted by: Bridgett.

duffelMy agenda for today: Finish last-minute laundry, pull suitcase down from the top of the coat closet, assemble conference materials, make a list of things to put into that suitcase…

You guessed it, I’m beginning to pack for the upcoming writers’ conference.

As you might expect, I learned a few things the last time I attended a conference. One of the biggest… Continue reading

Storm Light

Cloud_in_the_sunlightHave you ever looked closely at a rainbow? Or been mesmerized by the vivid colors of sunlight edging or poking through a storm cloud? A few rays of light can turn the darkest thunderhead into an amazing work of art.

Just as God’s Light can transform the storms in our lives into works of beauty and brilliance.

Cliché? Maybe. Still, no less true.

Okay, but how? Continue reading

The Light of Praise

Happy are the people who know how to praise you. Lord, let them live in the light of your presence.  — Psalm 89: 15 (NCV)

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; –– 1 Peter 2:9 (NKJV)

Praise to God is a powerful tool we often underestimate. Continue reading
