Scribe’s Playlist — Be Still

Posted by Rebecca.

My heart felt heavy today as I sat to work on this post. I have friends who are struggling with life-threatening illness, job and income losses, deaths of loved ones, and the stresses of life.

Miracle sign

As I pray for them and share heartfelt compassion for their circumstance, I have an inner peace that the God I love and gave my life to will, without a doubt, show himself real and faithful to each one of them in just the right time. That He will answer their cry for help and my simple prayers for them.

I know He will answer, and yet I understand the feelings of fear, sadness, and inadequacy my dear friends may be experiencing. Those feelings tend to war with our faith that God is with us and never leaves us. Those fears at times utter battle cries that may rise through the peaceful moments of our prayers and pierce our hearts.

Maybe it is to those warring fears we need to say, “Be Still! My God is with me and together we WILL have victory.”

Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Those words “be still” are not just a call for silent worship. It was the voice of God addressing wicked warring nations to “cease and desist”. Warning them that He would be exalted, not them. That they had no chance of winning.

As I read and studied this verse today, I was reminded of the song from Bethel Music “Be Still”.

So, I invite you to share my headphones for a moment and enjoy…

The Black Moment: making room for the light

Posted by: Bridgett.

What makes a great story?

What causes the most lasting growth in our lives?

One answer fits both questions.

Some stories affect our emotions so strongly they stay with us for decades.  Some life events change us so profoundly, we emerge almost as different people.

It may be surprising to realize the key to many personal triumphs, and to those characters who make us want to raise a fist in shared celebration, is steeped in fathomless darkness.

The secret to both is what we call in fiction writing “the black moment.” Continue reading

Declare Your Independence!

Posted by: Bridgett.

Have you declared your independence lately?

flagIn 1776, America’s founding fathers did just that. They took a bold, scary, irrevocable step that led to total freedom from British authority.

If you live in America, can you imagine some guy from England showing up at your doorstep today, demanding you pay a fine for violating some law established by the British parliament? You’d laugh in his face.

Last weekend, our church hosted guest minister Russell Kalenberg. His message gave me an entirely new perspective on what it means to declare independence. As I listened, ideas not only for this blog post, but for my life as a writer and believer, started brewing.

So, what does it mean to declare independence? In this land of liberty I and many others are blessed to call home, from what do we still need to break free?  Continue reading

Scribe’s Playlist — Playing the piano with no hands

Scribe's PlaylistHere’s the video I mentioned in Tuesday’s post “Quit” & 5 other words on my family’s Naughty Word List.

So, I invite you to share my headphones for a moment and enjoy…

Scribe’s Playlist — Light Up the Sky

Scribe's PlaylistGod is Light. But, it can sometimes be difficult to see or feel His presence through the darkness of our circumstances. The good news is, like physical light which exists beyond the visible spectrum, He is always there.

So, I invite you to share my headphones for a moment and enjoy…

Scribes Playlist — Alive Again

Scribe's PlaylistI’ve searched through my playlists for a song to match the theme of the wonderful video posted here on Tuesday. Several themes stood out to me after watching it, and I finally settle upon one: if we truly long for God’s presence, He will break through any darkness we allow in our lives to reach us, sometimes in startling ways.

With that in mind, I invite you to share my headphones for a moment and enjoy…

A dark day or Light at work?

The following was recently posted on Facebook. To the author, whose identity I don’t know, thank you for this beautiful insight into God’s behind-the-scenes work in our lives. How often are the shadows in our days actually evidence of His Light at work? Continue reading

Scribe’s Playlist — I Can See Clearly Now

We all know what it’s like to get caught in a raging storm, whether in nature or in life. Often, the tempest is so large, we can’t see the clear skies on the other side. But God can. His light reminds us those calmer skies are still there…and so is he. We just have to look ahead, and look to Him.

So, I invite you to share my headphones for a moment and enjoy…
