Caught in a downpour without an umbrella?

He sat on the couch, feet propped up by the wooden coffee table, the remote pointed at the television. He flexed his jaw and continued surfing the channels for anything that would give him hope that, somewhere in this world, good was still happening. Continue reading

Scribe’s Playlist — In Jesus’ Name

Earlier this week, I posted the story of how a friend’s decision to text me the hilarious name of a pastry late at night saved my life. The truth is, as funny as that name was, she would never ordinarily send it to me at 1:00 a.m.

Because we pray for each other daily, her heart was open to hear the whisper-soft prompting of God. Thus, though I am thankful for her quirky sense of humor and cool head in the midst of an emergency, it was God’s perfectly timed nudge that saved me. Even before we knew anything was wrong, His hand was protecting me.

So, in thanks to Him, I invite you to share my headphones for a moment and enjoy…

It’s a Case of Love

Have you ever noticed the way young children will hear a phrase and latch onto it for a while? They’ll use that phrase in nearly every conversation, sometimes in the funniest context.

Nephew: “Uh huh. In some cases. Yes, yes you do.”

Me: “No. In all cases.”

That conversation made me think of how we often approach prayer. Continue reading

My Life in a Few Verses

The attack of a deadly foe: nearly fatal chronic illness, loss of purpose…

“Enemy, don’t laugh at me. I have fallen, but I will get up again. I sit in the shadow of trouble now, but the Lord will be a light for me.” Micah 7:8

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” 2 Corinthians 4:7-9

The message of hope from my King…
