That’s exactly what happened to me this morning as I awoke with thoughts of the next blog post and chapters of novel revisions awaiting me. No sudden burst of light filled my mind. No warm flood of insight, no spontaneous combustion of ideas, just a bunch of dry, grey dust clogging my brain.

Though my fellow writers are likely nodding in empathy right now, this snuffing of inspiration doesn’t just plague wielders of the pen. Musicians, artists, business owners, marketers, parents, people of faith who’ve fallen into a spiritual rut—in short, everyone–will experience a slump in inspiration at some point.

Well then, what do we do about it?

You Be the Scribe: Poll and Giveaway

It’s giveaway time at Light’s Scribe!

A few weeks ago, we posted our plans to try out and evaluate new types of blog content, all leading to your chance to help us choose and to win a fun prize. Here’s an excerpt…

Are the devotional-style or humorous articles we share at the beginning of the week your favorites? Or is it the “Fantasy Friday” writing- and speculative fiction-related content you prefer?

How can you join this quest? What are the choices, and more importantly, what’s the prize?  Continue reading

Getting Noticed

Exposure: 1. presentation to view, especially in an open or public manner. 2. appearance or presentation before the public, as in theater, on television, or in films. 3. (in photography) the intensity of light falling on a photographic film or plate, multiplied by the time for which it is exposed.

“Getting noticed isn’t about talent or doing something people like. It’s about doing something that causes an extreme reaction.”  Continue reading

Back From the Void

Yes, Light’s Scribe still lives!

The menace of the blank page (er, screen) is subdued. The empty inkwell of inspiration is replenished. Blogger’s block is conquered.

At least, that’s the Scribe’s current battle cry.

Who’s with me?

I never would have imagined it was possible to have writer’s block and a flood of inspiration at the same time. I mean, aren’t those exact opposites? But, that’s precisely what happened the past few weeks. Continue reading
