This song from the modern Disney fairy tale, Enchanted, may be a sweet dream of the perfect romance, but this week I’m hearing in it a different message. As I was researching material for this week’s theme “The Fairy Tale Life,” the lyrics to this song reminded me of the happy ever after God wants to give us. We just have to open our hearts and believe.
With that in mind, I invite you to share my headphones for a moment and enjoy…
Ever Ever After
Recording Artist: Carrie Underwood
Sometimes you reach what’s real just by making believe
Unafraid, unashamed. There is joy to reclaim in this world
You even might wind up being glad to be you.
Ever ever after. Though the world will tell you it’s not smart
Ever ever after, The world can be yours if you let your heart
Believe in ever after.
My inspiration: The protagonist of my novel had a clear idea of what a happy ever after means.
“I wouldn’t settle for simple fairy tale love, even should it exist,” Lyssanne said. “I desire a love like that of my parents. Not untroubled, but undying—a love that defies time and circumstance.” Excerpt from: Keeper of Shadows, Chapter 2.
With such a love comes self-acceptance, a major theme of the novel. When we embrace God’s undying love, we begin to see ourselves as He sees us–a loved one worth dying for.
That’s the true love God offers. That’s His happy ever after.
